Recently also, the Ministry of Manpower together with Workplace Safety and Health Council released a statistical report about the decrease in overall number of workplace fatalities, injuries and occupational diseases in 2010.
“In addition to the 20% drop in workplace fatalities, the overall workplace injuries also fell by 4.8%, while the Occupational Diseases dropped by 8%,” says the report.
Foreign companies can establish a presence in Singapore in three ways. Depending on their standards and needs, they can choose to register a representative, branch, or subsidiary offices.
Asiabiz handles company incorporation for all businessmen, but particularly for foreign companies and investors as Singapore does not allow foreigners to handle the registration by themselves unless they are eligible by having a Singapore Personal Access or NRIC.
“A representative office can be an excellent vehicle for investors who may want to be certain in their investments. It affords them the resources to evaluate the market potential of Singapore and ascertain which products or services are profitable,” says Asiabiz.
Led by a Chief Representative that can also be a foreign national following a release of Employment pass, the representative office can engage in market research, feasibility studies, promoting a product brand by sampling using a Custom Registration Number.
“After three years of existence, a representative office should move forward to becoming a full-blown company such as a branch office or a subsidiary,” beams Asiabiz.
A branch office acts like an extension of a foreign company that maintains full authority and control over it including determining activities the branch should engage in, and appointing directors through its own Memorandum and Articles of Association.
“There ought to be at least two agents appointed by the foreign company that shall help in the administration of the branch,” chimes Asiabiz, “these agents can be locals or foreign nationals by obtaining a labor pass.”
Meanwhile, a subsidiary office adopts a private limited structure and is thus composed of a resident director, a company secretary, and a shareholder.
