Let your voice be heard, tell Michigan's U.S. Senators to defund Planned Parenthoodby Martin Barillas Wednesday, March 09, 2011
Let your voice be heard, tell Michigan's U.S. Senators to defund Planned Parenthood Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate and President Obama are engaged in negotiations about which federal programs should be reduced or eliminated for the remainder of the current federal fiscal year. In the wake of the February 18, 2011, U.S. House vote (240-185) adopting the Pence Amendment, Planned Parenthood has launched a massive campaign to try to save its federal funding, complete with TV ads and lobbying by entertainment celebrities. The slick, expensive Planned Parenthood public relations campaign can only be countered by one thing: Contacts from real voters with the message: I do not want federal funds going to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood received more than $363 million from government sources in 2008, much of it from various federal programs. At the same time, Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider. Planned Parenthood clinics performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, about one-fourth of all abortions performed in the U.S. Recently, Planned Parenthood reportedly mandated that every one of its affiliates must provide abortions within two years. More than one-third of PPFA-affiliated clinic revenues are generated by selling abortions. Planned Parenthood is also heavily involved in pro-abortion advocacy, lobbying and political activity. Please call, today, the offices of your two U.S. senators. Urge them to insist that the Pence Amendment, removing all federal funds from Planned Parenthood, must remain part of the final appropriations bill. Michigan Senators: Senator Carl Levin Phone: (202) 224-6221 Senator Debbie Stabenow Phone: (202) 224-4822 Please call today (preferably, during business hours). Ask your friends and family members to call as well. Right to Life of Michigan: Phone: 616/532-2300 | 2340 Porter St SW | Grand Rapids | MI | 49509 General |
