If you are a beginner when it comes to a surf board, then you should head to Freights Bay at the southern tip of the island. Not only are the accommodations here quite nice and affordable, the waves are a little less likely to squash you! You’ll find beginners’ surfing lessons being held here and before long, you too will be surfing in the brilliant, clear blue Caribbean water. This is a fantastic beach area to learn to surf, but also to just enjoy the pinkish white sand beach at Cotton Beach. Long boarders will love catching easy waves here, but if you’re looking for something a little more challenging, you may want to head over to South Point. You’ll find a ton of intermediate waves that will give you a little more on each pass, but if the waves are dead around the island, then South Point usually will not disappoint you. For a surfing Barbados vacation, the south coast is the place to be for a beginner to an intermediate surfer.
For those that are experienced or even professional surfers, then it’s time to head over to the east coast of the island. As one of the best surf spots in Barbados, the Soup Bowl is also listed as one of the top three surf destinations in the world. The waves here are huge and tough, even for the most experienced surfers. This area of Barbados is not as commercialized as some of the more tourist friendly areas of the island, but with the surfing here, it really doesn’t matter. Box-by-Box, Parlors, and High Rock are also located on the east coast and offer some great surfing for the more experienced boarders.
During the winter months, a Barbados vacation is a great way to escape the cold and wet weather that much of the rest of the country experiences. Tropicana, located on the west coast of the island is one of the most popular surf spots in Barbados during the winter. However, you should heed the warnings of the natives when surfing here. The coral reef here is sharp and will cut you to shreds if you decide to surf during the low tides. Play it safe and enjoy the great tubes that are often found here.
You have your choice of some great surf spots in Barbados, no matter what time of year you decide to visit. Plan ahead for your Barbados vacation and you’re sure to find a beach front hotel with exceptional amenities. You’ll also pay less when you book your Barbados vacation ahead of time. Enjoy your time in the sun and the surf!
Resource Box: The best surf spots in Barbados are easy to find. You’re sure to love your Barbados vacation as you relax in the fun, sun, and surf.
