Rebuilding Together Harrisburg and the local Harrisburg Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) will team up to repair the Silence of Mary community center. The PBG employees will be volunteering their time to prepare the center to open their doors to the homeless in March. Funding for the project has been made available through a grant from The Pepsi Bottling Group. In addition to funding the Rebuilding Together Harrisburg affiliate, PBG will provide grants for similar projects in 10 communities nationwide.

Rebuilding Together Harrisburg would like to invite the media and local government officials to join them onsite for the project. Volunteers will be painting, cleaning and repairing carpentry and plumbing throughout the center. The project takes place this Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the newly acquired Silence of Mary Home located at 1604 Market Street, Harrisburg.

"At PBG, our employees set the community outreach agenda. They identify local causes that mean something to them and to their families," said Anna Rupert, HR Representative for the PBG facility in Harrisburg.

"Here in Harrisburg, our employees wanted to help an organization that was making a difference. Rebuilding Together introduced us to the Silence of Mary, a nonprofit that provides transitional housing and job training for underprivileged Pennsylvanians," Rupert continued. "It is a powerful day for all of us. We feel grateful to be able to help out our neighbors."

Rebuilding Together Harrisburg is part of Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods by providing home repair and renovation services at no cost to those in need. Through the support of corporate sponsors, local businesses and the hands-on work of over 200,000 volunteers, Rebuilding Together renovates and repairs nearly 10,000 homes and nonprofit facilities annually with a market value of nearly $100 million.

In addition to its core home repair work, Rebuilding Together renovates community centers and conducts home modification and repair programs that focus on elder home safety, energy efficiency, veterans housing, and disaster recovery and reconstruction. Rebuilding Together has more than 200 affiliates nationwide.
