SAN FRANCISCO, December 9, 2010 – No one would dare to suggest that C. S. Lewis’s “Mere Christianity” is anything less than a brilliant explanation and defense of the Christian faith. But as robust, wise, and ardent as it is, still it is incomplete. It begins the banquet at the table of the Lord, but doesn’t take one all the way to the final course.

That is what Dwight Longenecker’s new book, “More Christianity”, does. It fills one’s plates with the fullness of the Christian Faith found only in the Catholic Church. Father Longenecker does not set himself up as Lewis’ successor. He expands on Lewis’ arguments for “mere Christianity” by presenting the doctrine of the Church with succinct explanations of topics that arise in Catholic/Protestant discussion: the Marian dogmas, the papacy, the Mass, purgatory, the communion of saints, the rosary and more.

As a former Fundamentalist, Evangelical, and Anglican, Longenecker understands the deeper spiritual needs and questions of those Christians who hunger for the fullness of the faith. “More Christianity” rounds out the meal so deliciously served up by Lewis in his classic work.

Publisher’s Weekly recommends “More Christianity”, saying, “Using C.S. Lewis’ “Mere Christianity” as a starting point, Longenecker challenges readers to look beyond the simple faith that Lewis described to discover ‘more Christianity.’ His use of Lewis's signature work provides an engaging point of reference that could be useful in ecumenical discussions with Protestants. It also will be helpful to Catholics seeking to understand evangelicals and their brand of Christianity.”

Carl Olson, author of “The Da Vinci Hoax”, calls this book “A balanced, engaging, and charitable work . . . “More Christianity” will go far in helping Evangelicals (and Catholics) better appreciate the riches and glories of the Catholic Church.”

Thomas Howard, author of “Evangelical is Not Enough”, says, “Longenecker, with immense tact, clarity, sagacity, and learning, takes us the rest of the way along the road charted in “Mere Christianity”. We find here all of the questions that arise vis-à-vis the doctrine of the Church, and the fullness of the doctrine that she teaches. Any believer serious about the ancient faith ought to find this book vastly rewarding.”
