The “new normal” for business has left small to mid-size firms scrambling to find ways to increase profits and control costs, while using the same old model of human resources in an ever-changing world. Human Capital Partners has created a hybrid solution to address this need.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there was over 88,000 businesses in Orange County in 2012; 71,000 of those have 100 or fewer employees and 63,000 have fewer than 20. These companies all have one thing in common related to their success: people. “Human capital creates business capital - and enhances investor capital,” states Cheryl Klem, Principal of Human Capital Partners. These firms need the same strategic thinking and high level Human Resources oversight as their larger counterparts, but there is no way they can hire that person; even the payroll and desk costs of an HR generalist with just a few years of experience is too big of a burden for most companies to take on.

To date, the solutions offered for these small to mid-market businesses has been to handle HR themselves or outsource to a PEO (Professional Services Organization that leases employees back to the employer) or to a Payroll/Benefits company that offers HR as an adjunct to their services. “This isn’t enough,” says Cheryl Klem; “we have to provide the same high level expertise to maneuver in this new environment where complexities are increasing in human resources, but margins in business are tighter – we must help this large segment of employers, and the employees who work for them, to thrive.”
