Let's face it: the morning is often the most disliked time of day. Some of us hate it with a passion. Waking up early, rushing around to get ready, the morning commute and that embarrassing feeling of being late do not make for a great start of the day.

That's why the morning is one of the most important times of day - it sets tone for the rest of our waking hours. Let's pay attention to this precious time and make it a pleasure to wake up to!

Be An Early Bird

Even if you dislike getting up at the break of dawn, waking up early can make you feel better than sleeping the extra fifteen minutes after the alarm goes of. Leave yourself enough time to complete your morning routine without rushing and you'll get to work more confident and positive about your day. Not having to rush around will leave you with more energy to tackle your to-do list at work. Sometimes even ten minutes earlier can make a huge difference to the quality of your day, and ten minutes longer in bed won't make you feel any more rested.

Get Moving

Spend some of your early minutes exercising and you will burn more calories at breakfast and stimulate your body and your grey cells to work harder during the rest of the day. If you don't fancy a jog or a full yoga session that early in the morning, set aside ten or fifteen minutes extra to walk to work if you normally drive or take a bus or do a quick exercise routine to get your heart pumping.

Take a Shower

Maybe you like to take a bath or a shower in the evening to save yourself some time in the morning, but a quick shower after you get out of bed will wash away the sleepiness and help you greet the new day fresh and ready for anything it may bring. Use mint or citrus body wash to make it an even more pleasant experience and help you stay feeling refreshed for hours.

Start Light

Breakfast is undoubtedly the most important meal of the day, but don't load up on too many calories or you'll be left feeling sluggish instead of energised. Choose whole foods like oatmeal and fruit to jump-start your day and help you crave healthy foods throughout the day to keep you energised. Find the right balance: too little calories will make you feel tired very quickly and starving before lunch, so get the quantities and types of food right.

Stay Quiet

Maybe loud and bright is your personality, but being still for a few moments in the morning is a great way to organise your thoughts and create an action plan for the day. Being quiet and focused for a few minutes will give you more energy to take on the tasks at work and at home. You'll know what you're expected to do and you'll face it head on instead of going through the day confused and without a plan.

There are other little steps you can take to start the day in a better mood and with enough energy to handle all that life puts in front of you each day. Maybe a strong cup of black coffee or a deep breath of fresh air is what you need to start your day right. Perhaps it's a cuddle with your partner or breakfast with the kids. Whatever puts you in a good mood and energises your body and mind is worth giving a go in these crucial moments after you wake up. Create a happy, productive morning for a happy and productive day!
